Picatinny Senior Commander Brig. Gen. Jonathan A. Maddux
Welcome to Picatinny Arsenal, the Joint Center of Excellence for Armaments and Munitions.

With its team of 5,000-strong military and civilian team members, Picatinny Arsenal is committed to maintaining its tradition of excellence, to meeting the critical needs of our warfighters efficiently with minimum delay, and to continue as prudent stewards of taxpayer resources.

A variety of organizations within the Army and the Department of Defense call Picatinny home, including the Joint Munitions and Lethality Life Cycle Management Command the Program Executive Office for Ammunition, and the Program Manager for Soldier Weapons

The largest of Picatinny's organizations, the Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), is noted for winning the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. More recently, the Secretary of the Army awarded the Superior Unit Award to ARDEC's parent command, the Army Research, Development and Engineering Command.

Picatinny Arsenal's integral contribution to national defense arises from its distinct role: It develops 90 percent of the Army's armaments and ammunition including warhead, explosive, all sizes of firearms, battlefield sensors, and advanced weaponry based on high-power microwaves, high-energy lasers and nanotechnolgy.

Moreover, many of the Army's greatest inventions were developed by engineering teams right here at Picatinny Arsenal. Since the Army Greatest Invention Awards began in 2002, we've won 24 of the 80 inventions. This includes life-saving protective gear, like the Objective Gunner Protection Kit for turret gunners, to the Excalibur Precision Guided Extended Range Artillery Projectile.

But we're not just an Army-focused facility. As a critical hub for weapons development in the Department of Defense, our people, our products and our services benefit all branches of the U.S. military.

We are also home to the Picatinny Contracting and Commerce Center, the Defense Contract Management Agency-Springfield, the Indian Head Division - Picatinny Detachment Naval Surface Warfare Center, a Reserve Medical Support Unit, and a Marine Corps Reserve unit.

Although the majority of personnel at Picatinny Arsenal are civilians, the tight focus and dedication among our workforce to supporting the warfighter is often notable among new members to our community. In a recent newspaper article, a new sergeant major with a wealth of Army experience noted that although Picatinny may not technically be a combat unit, "it certainly has the warfighter mentality."

While the Picatinny Arsenal community takes rightful pride in the accolades it has received, it is also aware that our commitment to the warfighter is paramount and deeply woven into our culture. Our uniformed warfighters across all services facing the constant perils of combat deserve nothing less.

Highest Caliber!
