Army Emergency Relief's primary purpose is to provide emergency financial assistance to relieve the distress of Army personnel, retirees, and their families, and to provide financial assistance to needy spouses and orphans of deceased Army members.
  • Financial assistance is available through either a no interest loan or a grant.
  • Eligibility includes active duty service members; Army National Guard and Reserve on active duty more than 30 days; Army members retired after 20 years or retired by disability; and their dependents.
  • Members of the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard can apply for emergency relief funds through the installation AER.
  • Conducts an annual AER Campaign to raise funds to continue to provide financial assistance, to raise awareness of AER, and to emphasize that the "Army Takes Care of Its Own."
