Picatinny Rod & Gun Association

All hunting and fishing at Picatinny follows the PA Regulation 215-1, updated 29 Feb, 2012.  (Click to see copy) (Click to see Sportsmen Map 2012), Addendum to PAR 215-1 updated 2 Nov, 2011 for Hunting Area (HA 8E) including new G2 range (Click to see copy)  Range is scheduled to open mid Jan. 2012 for mission shooting.

You do not have to be a member of the PR&GA to hunt or fish at Picatinny Arsenal, but it is the only organization on post with volunteers that help young and old to get started and/or learn new rod and gun skills.  Most of the membership fees are used to purchase trout, bass, pike, walleye, and catfish to stock in the Picatinny bodies of water and pheasants for the hunting program for everybody's enjoyment.  Other programs funded with membership funds are National Hunting and Fishing Day for kids, fishing tournaments, game dinners, pig roast, archery, and new this year BOW (Become an Outdoors Woman).

Standard Operating Procedure 215-20 - Ice Checks (Click)

31 Jan, 2012:  Ice fishing is PERMITTED in limited locations at Picatinny. On Picatinny we follow the guidelines used by state and federal parks and other military installations to determine if it is safe to enter onto the ice (4" of clear black ice or 6" of grey ice) at PICATINNY LAKE, LAKE DENMARK, EOD POND, FISHERS POND, AND SOUTH BASIN.  The only place designated for skating is in the cove behind the chapel on South Basin.  North Basin and South Basin is off limits for ice fishing.

Picatinny Lake           0"  CLOSED  A portion of the Lake at least 100 yards (300 feet) from the dam/Spillway is considered off limits due to potentially unsafe ice, deeper water levels and  underwater current.

Lake Denmark           0"  CLOSED Fishermen MUST NOT ice fish, nor access the Lake, in that portion of Denmark Lake within 20 yards of the spillway and staff gauge.

EOD Pond                       0"  CLOSED

Fishers Pond                 0"  CLOSED

South Basin               0"  CLOSED  Ice skating only in the cove behind the Chapel.
