Networked Munitions draw on revolutionary advances in the technology of war.
The goal is an “intelligent battlefield,” one that allows our forces
to fix, classify, identify and report time-sensitive targets in near real time,
deny terrain to enemy forces or deploy a range of munitions that work together to
shape the battlefield to our advantage. Networked Munitions also enable vital
force protection by filling gaps in dangerous, unoccupied terrain, securing
units flans while providing close-in protection for small units and providing
effect in uncertain situation with minimal collateral damage.
In February 2004 the President instituted the National Landmine Policy,
requiring the U.S. to end the use of non-self-destructing landmines by 31
December 2010. The Network Munitions division of PM CCS – the nation's
“principal” in landmine technology and acquisition – has
taken charge of this mission, developing, qualifying and acquiring
network-controlled and self-destroying/self-neutralizing munition
systems to replace antipersonnel and antitank landmines.
